How to Get the Most Out of Your Mumma's Circle Group Photo Session

It’s that winding-down moment of the term again. Babies are a little bigger, mums are a little steadier, and the Mummas Circle group photoshoot is just around the corner.
If we haven’t met yet, I’m Tarsh. I’m a full-time professional photographer based in Bunya, with 14 years of experience photographing Brisbane babies and families. In that time, Ive picked up awards for both my photography and service but probably most important to you - I’ve been working with Rashelle to photograph her Everton Park sessions for the past two years.
My approach is calm, warm, and very human. This is not about “performing” for the camera. It’s about holding your baby the way you always do. The way that already feels right.
I gently guide when needed and leave space for the rest. My favourite images are the quiet ones, you know -the ones that feel like real life.

Over my time with Mummas Circle, I’ve photographed so many different mums and bubs, all arriving exactly as they are in that moment.
Some babies are wriggly, some are calm, some need feeding, some need space.
And every single time, the most beautiful part of the shoot is the connection between you and your baby. The way you settle them. The way they lean into you. The quiet understanding that already exists, without needing to be taught.
Being invited into a space that truly believes in the village it takes to raise a child is something I don’t take lightly. This season of motherhood is tender, messy, grounding, and powerful.
Capturing it gently, honestly, and without pressure feels like an honour every single time.
But I also know how we like to be prepared for a nice photo, and for most families I photograph, the first question is always, "What do we wear?"
The best part of the Mumma's Circle photoshoots is that you don’t need to dress a certain way.
Truly. These photos are about connection far more than clothes. No special trips to the shops are required (unless you need an excuse... then by all means, take this as your sign!).
If you’d like a few simple tips to help you look a little more polished on camera, here are some gentle suggestions that can make a lovely difference.
1. Avoid Baby Jumpsuits with Open Leg Holes
This tip is practical. Those adorable rompers often let nappies sneak into view. If your bub is wearing a jumpsuit, consider popping a little pair of shorts, a skirt, or bloomers over the top. This keeps things neat and tidy in photos.
2. Choose Plain Colours for Beautiful Photos
While patterns can be fun, simple block colours photograph beautifully. They feel soft, calm, and timeless on camera. For both mums and babies, plain tones help keep the focus on your faces, your connection, and that gorgeous bond you share.
3. Select Fabrics That Don’t Show Wet Patches
If your baby is a drooler, some fabrics darken quickly when damp, especially colours like grey marl and pale blue. Choosing a fabric that stays the same colour when wet can help keep their outfit looking fresh throughout the session.
4. Wear What Makes You Comfortable
Remember, you can absolutely wear whatever you like. These are your photos and your memories. There’s no pressure to match, coordinate, or dress up. Come as you are, in whatever feels comfortable and true to you. These tips are simply here for gentle guidance.
5. The Real Magic Is in the Connection
The most beautiful part of these sessions isn’t the outfit.
It’s the way your baby melts into you, the way you instinctively hold them close, and the way you look at them without even realising you’re doing it.

These little moments become incredibly precious over time. The days can feel long, but the months truly are short. These photos will mean more than you can imagine later on.
I cant wait to meet you soon!
