What’s the Most Special Moment You’ve Ever Captured During a Family Photography Session?

People often ask me, “What’s the most unforgettable moment you’ve photographed?” And honestly, it’s hard to choose just one because after 14 years as a family photographer is Brisbane, I've had a lot of beautiful connections with the most amazing families.

But there are a couple Id like to share with you here today.

One of my beautiful newborn mums, Gemma, shared her raw and deeply moving journey to breastfeeding after undergoing a mastectomy.

As I photographed her holding baby Annabelle in the most powerful, tender moment, there wasn’t a dry eye in the room, including mine.

That image lives in my heart to this day. It speaks of a mother’s fierce love, the unbreakable bond with her child, and the extraordinary strength of a woman’s body—to survive, to heal, to grow life, and to nurture in the most profound way.

I still well up at this image every time I see it.

Another story that springs to mind was during a session with a family of four young boys including two one-year-old twins.

All four were in go mode from the second they arrived.

The parents were doing their absolute best to wrangle them, but it was starting to feel a bit like herding cats, and you could see the fluster building.

Instead of forcing the moment, I moved in really close and started quietly singing Twinkle Twinkle.

One by one, each of the boys paused to listen.

I gently encouraged them into soft cuddles on their parents laps then slowly stepped back out of their space as the calm settled over them and their parents kept singing the song.

That stillness, so rare with four little ones, turned into the most beautifully connected photo.

No posing, no pleading, just presence.

It’s now one of their favourite family memories, and for me, a reminder that on the hard days, love lives right there in the mess.

As a family photographer in Brisbane, these are the moments I live for.

Not the perfect smiles, but the real stuff. The moments that catch you off guard and stay with you long after the session is over.

You never know what a session might bring.

Sometimes it’s belly laughs, sometimes it’s quiet cuddles, and sometimes it’s a memory you’ll cling to forever.

But the best part is that you walk away not just with photos, but with proof that your family is made of something pretty special.
